Who built ScopeLock

Shiv. Licensed electrician, NSW licence 97775S, working in Western Sydney. Here's the job that made me build this.

The job that made me build it

A repeat customer wanted his switchboard upgraded. I worked it out at $1,900 and told him so. On the day he turned up with $1,500 in cash and said that was all he had.

He wasn't trying it on. He remembered a different number to the one I said, and I had nothing to show him that proved otherwise. He'd been good to me for years, so I wore the $400 and said nothing.

That's the $1,900 switchboard in the pricing examples on the front page. ScopeLock would have charged me $10 for it.

Why variations, specifically

Variations are the part of a job most likely to go wrong on paper. Someone asks for extra work while you are on site, you give them a price, they tell you to go ahead, and your crew gets on with it. The work is real and it gets done. The record of it is two people's memories of a conversation.

So ScopeLock does one specific thing: write the change down, get it agreed before the work starts, and keep the record of who agreed to what and when.

What it does, and where it stops

It is a standalone variation tool. You write the changed scope, the added price, the GST and the time impact, send one link, and both parties sign. It keeps the decision history and a signed PDF evidence pack.

It is not a job-management system and it is not trying to become one. It works alongside whatever you already use for quoting, scheduling and invoicing. You do not have to move your business into it.

It records evidence. It does not provide legal advice, and it does not guarantee that a record will resolve every contractual dispute. A good written record puts you in a much better position than a remembered conversation, and that is the honest limit of what it does.

Who you're dealing with

I'm Shivneel Chandra, a licensed electrician working in Western Sydney. My electrical licence is 97775S, issued by NSW Fair Trading. I built ScopeLock myself. I am not a software company with a sales team behind me, and I still work in the trade.
